Welcome! The Single Flower Sangha is comprised of a virtual group of dedicated Zen students. We do not have a central location, and members reside in several regions throughout the United States. Our guiding teacher is George Bowman, whose unique way of teaching unites us, remotely, to each continue in our Zen practice. | |||||||||
The Single Flower Sangha consists of new, and not-so-new practitioners. We are always happy to accept serious newcomers to our sesshin. Those new to Zen can click here for a short introduction. |

When Buddha addressed an assembly at Vulture Peak he said nothing, but silently held out a single flower. No one knew what to make of this except his senior disciple Mahakashyapa, who broke into a broad smile. The Buddha said, "I have the true Dharma Eye, the Marvelous Mind of Nirvana, the True Form of the Formless, and the Subtle Dharma Gate, independent of words and transmitted beyond doctrine. This I have entrusted to Mahakashyapa." |
